Nana Patekar had said this to Anil Kapoor regarding the casting of Parinda

Parinda is a 1989 Hindi crime drama film produced and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The film stars Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles, with Suresh Oberoi and Tom Alter in supporting roles. Meanwhile, veteran actor Nana Patekar shared his irritation at being replaced by Jackie Shroff in the 1989 film Parinda, a decision he attributed to Anil Kapoor's influence. 

Nana Patekar said this

Let us tell you that in their recent interaction, Nana and Patekar reunited for the promotions of their upcoming film Vanvas, directed by Anil Sharma, where the topic of Parinda came up again. Reflecting on the incident, Nana said, "You troubled me a lot during Parinda. Let me tell you, I was supposed to play the brother's role in the film. We even rehearsed. Jackie was later roped in because of Anil."

'I would like to thank him' - Nana Patekar

Continuing his argument, Nana Patekar added, "But I would like to thank him, because if he had not insisted on Jackie, I would not have got the role of Anna." Anil then clarified his stand, recalling his extensive behind-the-scenes experience in films including Hum Paanch. "I may be wrong, but I felt that for the role of my brother in Parinda, Jackie would be the best choice. I am very honest with you."

Nana Patekar shared this thing

The veteran actor shared, "Because of your honesty, I lost the role. You know I didn't work with you for 19 years after that? I thought, 'Ye toh bada bahut aadmi hai yaar.' Anil defended himself saying, "It was nothing against you. I only gave a suggestion to the director, and the final decision was his. Remember this. These people draw fire from the shoulders of heroes." However, Nana dismissed this argument saying, "But you were the star, obviously he would listen to you." Nevertheless, he admitted, "Jackie did a good job though. He won a Filmfare Award for his performance."

Anil Kapoor said this about the film

Anil Kapoor insisted that his suggestion was purely professional, saying, "Our family has been in the film business for 60 years, please know that I will not compromise the film at any cost. After all these years, we are friends now..." Nana thanked Anil for helping with the promotions of Vanvaas, but added, "Now you have changed, but back then you behaved like a star."
