Nusraat Faria Arrested in Attempted Murder Case: Bangladesh’s popular actress Nusrat Faria, who gained widespread acclaim for portraying former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the biopic Mujib: The Making of a Nation, has reportedly been arrested. According to sources, Nusrat was taken into custody on Sunday, 18th May, at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The arrest is connected to a case involving attempted murder during violent anti-government protests in July 2024.

Actress Arrested in Attempted Murder Case Related to 2024 Protests

Nusrat Faria was detained by immigration police while boarding a flight to Thailand. The arrest is linked to alleged charges stemming from the student-led protests across Bangladesh in July 2024, which called for the resignation of Sheikh Hasina and eventually led to her exile in India. Nusrat is reportedly one of 17 celebrities named in this case, which was registered at the Vatara Police Station in Dhaka.

Confirmation by Vatara Police

Inspector Sujan Haque of Vatara Police Station confirmed Nusrat Faria’s arrest, stating, “Based on information received from the immigration police, our team went to the airport to detain her. A few days ago, a court approved the attempted murder case against her. She has been shown arrested in that matter.”

Nusrat Faria’s Career Highlights

Nusrat Faria first rose to fame for her powerful portrayal of Sheikh Hasina in the 2023 film Mujib: The Making of a Nation, directed by the late, acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shyam Benegal. Before entering the film industry, Nusrat began her career as a radio jockey and TV presenter. She made her film debut with the Bangladesh-India joint production Aashiqui: True Love in 2015. Since then, she has appeared in several Bangladeshi and Indian films, primarily in Bengali. Besides acting, Nusrat is also active as a television host and model.
