Rajinikanth was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the closing ceremony of  the 56th International Film Festival of India ( IFFI ) in Goa, marking his 50 glorious years in the film industry. Taking the stage, he reflected on his long journey and said that although his career spanned five decades, it feels very short and fleeting.

In fact, a video of Rajinikanth is going viral on social media in which he expresses his gratitude, saying, "50 years of acting in cinema felt like 10 or 15 years. (Rajinikanth receives special honour for 50 years in cinema) If I were born 100 more times, I would like to be born as an actor and as Rajinikanth. All this respect goes to the cinema industry and mainly to the Tamil people, the gods who keep me alive."

Earlier during the festival, Rajinikanth's recent film, Lal Salaam, was screened for the audience. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who attended the screening of the Rajinikanth directorial, expressed her joy and pride at the film's premiere at the world-renowned festival. Lal Salaam, slated for release in 2024, is a Tamil-language sports action drama produced by Allirajah Subaskaran under the banner of Lyca Productions.

The closing ceremony took place at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji, Goa, where Chief Minister Pramod Sawant presented Rajinikanth with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Union Minister of State L. Murugan and Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh were also present on stage. The 56th edition of IFFI brought together filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals from around the world and highlighted major achievements in both Indian and world cinema. The festival also honored several renowned names like Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla, Ritwik Ghatak, P. Bhanumathi, Bhupen Hazarika, and Salil Chowdhury on their centenary with restored screenings of their most impactful works.
