The lawyer said, "No one should be imprisoned solely on the basis of an undertaking. We told the court that if it were a purely financial matter, we would meet him in jail and seek instructions. Today, we tried to speak to him in jail, but that was not possible. We will meet him personally to understand the court's stance on the earlier undertaking. If we pay the money, the case will not be debated on its merits and will be considered a settlement."

This entire case dates back to 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a loan of approximately ₹5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Private Limited to produce his directorial debut film, Aata Pata Lapata.
