In fact, in an interview with casting director Mukesh Chhabra on Mashable India, Rohit was shown a scene of Shah Rukh and Deepika from the film, which inspired him to tell this story. He said that Shah Rukh Khan approached him for collaboration after being impressed with his work and initially they were going to work together on the remake of Angoor. But then Rohit remembered an old script that was lying with him since 2008, which remained unpublished because no young actor was interested in doing it. He secretly rewrote the script to suit an aged hero and took it to Shah Rukh, who said that he only wanted to work with him, no matter what the project was. Rohit spoke about Deepika Shah Rukh took the final decision on the script, and work continued on it. Rohit Shetty recalled that Deepika was giving back-to-back flops at that time and it took her a few days to get into the groove. He said, "It took a lot of time. Especially in comedy, even established actors take time to get into it. We started shooting with Deepika, we shot for four days and on the fourth day she got the hang of the accent. Actors are usually conscious about how they are coming across, but when they are free from these worries, only then they start acting."
