They live without shelter, without vaccination, without sterilization, are left to give birth to puppies on the streets, and see their puppies suffer the same fate.

The note further read, "Many die under speeding vehicles or at the hands of cruelty. They only ask for compassion and to live without harm. Yet people sell them, throw them away, and now plan to uproot them from the only place they know, sending them to overcrowded shelters where they will lose their freedom and identity. This is not animal welfare. Sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs is the only real and humane solution". Reposting this note, Sonakshi wrote, "Day by day, we expose how soulless we have become as a society. Every day is a disappointment".

A bench of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said that all areas of Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad should be freed from stray dogs, and no compromise should be made in this. The bench also ordered contempt proceedings against all those individuals or organizations who try to obstruct the authorities in the dog-catching campaign. The apex court also directed the states and municipal authorities to create shelters for dogs, where there are adequate staff for the sterilization and vaccination of dogs.
