Shikhar Dhawan: Court Grants Major Relief, Orders Ex-Wife to Return Funds

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has received a major legal relief in his marital dispute. The Patiala House Family Court in Delhi issued a significant ruling in his ongoing property dispute with his ex-wife Aesha Mukherjee, refusing to recognize Australian Family Court orders as binding in India.

The court of Special Judge Devendra Kumar Garg held that property settlement orders passed by the Australian Family Court were not enforceable in India and could not be enforced against Dhawan. The court found that the settlements reached with Dhawan were allegedly obtained through threats, coercion, fraud, and extortion. All such settlements were voided.

 Order to return Rs 5.7 crore (Shikhar Dhawan ex-wife case)

The court ordered Ayesha Mukerjea to return ₹5.7 crore (approximately $57 million USD) to the court, along with 9% annual interest from the date the case was filed. The court also specified that the proceeds from the sale of properties in Australia be returned to Dhawan. Furthermore, any anti-suit injunction or other orders issued by the Australian court against Dhawan in India have been barred from being enforced.

 Verdict in ex parte hearing

Due to the defendant's absence, the court disposed of the case ex-parte and directed the preparation of a decree sheet. However, no separate order was passed regarding litigation costs.
