Suniel Shetty Initially Rejected 'Border' Over JP Dutta's Temper Concerns

Suniel Shetty recalls rejecting Border: Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty has given many hit and blockbuster films like Dhadak, Balwan, Mohra. His role in JP Dutta's film Border was also well-liked by the audience. Sunil Shetty played the role of Bhairav ​​Singh in the film. In a recent interview, Sunil Shetty revealed that he initially rejected the role due to rumors about the director's anger.

Actually, Sunil Shetty was asked during an interview why he initially rejected the role of Bhairav ​​Singh in Border, but later accepted it. Answering this question, the actor said, "I rejected the role because I had heard that JP Dutta is a very strict director, and if he got upset, he would even abuse. I myself had a very short temper. When JP ji came to meet me, I told him, 'I will talk to you.' Then I told my secretary, 'I will not be able to do this, because if he abuses me, I will raise my hand'".

Suniel Shetty also recalled how the filmmaker convinced him to do the role. The actor said, "I don't like to spoil relationships with anyone, so I thought, forget it. But JP ji was so adamant to cast me that he contacted Bharat Shah, who knew my mother-in-law. So, through my mother-in-law, the film came back to me. He made me sit and convinced me to do the film. I told him these are my conditions - and if such a situation arises, I will walk out". 

Border was released in the year 1997 

The 1997 epic war film was written, produced and directed by J. P. Dutta. Set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, the film is based on the events of the Battle of Longewala. It stars Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Sudesh Berry and Puneet Issar with supporting actors such as Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Rakhee, Pooja Bhatt and Sharbani Mukherjee.

Currently, the makers are busy shooting for Border 2. Apart from Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan, 'Border 2' also stars Ahan Shetty. Diljit Dosanjh will probably not be included, who has reportedly dropped out of the project. 'Border 2' will be released on 23 January 2026. It is being described as India's biggest war film till date. 'Border 2' is being produced by the powerful production team of Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. Presented by Gulshan Kumar and T-Series in association with JP Dutta's JP Films and directed by Anurag Singh, the sequel is set to carry forward the legacy of the iconic original while delivering a spectacular cinematic experience.
