Umrao Jaan Re-Release: Famous filmmaker-director Muzaffar Ali's classic film 'Umrao Jaan', released in 1981, is ready to hit the theatres once again. Veteran actress Rekha's performance in the film won everyone's heart. Now, actress Priyanka Chopra has shared a note on social media in which she has written that she will not be able to see Rekha's starrer Umrao Jaan being released again in theatres.

Let us tell you that Priyanka Chopra shared a short clip from the film Umrao Jaan starring Rekha, Farooq Sheikh and Naseeruddin Shah on Instagram Stories. Sharing this clip, she wrote, "Sad to not be there to support my favorite film and stars. It will be a great night. Congratulations Re ma'am Rekha ma'am Naseeruddin Shah sir". Let us tell you that three decades after the release of 'Umrao Jaan', the film is set to be released in theaters again in 4K version on June 27.

Umrao Jaan was released in 1981

Umrao Jaan is a 1981 Indian period musical drama film directed by Muzaffar Ali and starring Rekha in the titular role. Based on Mirza Hadi Ruswa's 1899 Urdu novel Umrao Jaan Ada, the film tells the story of a Lucknow courtesan and poetess and her rise to fame. Upon release, the film received widespread critical acclaim, particularly for Ali's direction and Rekha's lead performance. Considered one of the best Indian films of all time, Umrao Jaan won several awards. At the 29th National Film Awards, it won 4 awards, including Best Actress (Rekha). It was also nominated for 3 Filmfare Awards, winning Best Director (Ali) and Best Music Director (Khayyam).

If we talk about Priyanka Chopra's upcoming projects, the actress will star alongside Idris Elba and John Cena in Heads of State. Fans will also see Priyanka in the much-awaited web series Citadel 2. The second season, which was scheduled to release this year, has been postponed to "start in the spring of 2026". Priyanka will reportedly star opposite Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli's upcoming film. The actress will play a 19th-century Caribbean pirate in The Bluff.
