In fact, in his latest interview, Yash told that when he was first told about Ramayana, he was talking to Namit Malhotra of DNEG and Prime Focus. Yash said that he was impressed by his passion and his thinking on the matter. After this, Namit asked him if he wanted to be a part of the film for the role of Ravana. Answering this question, the South actor said, "If the character is treated like a character. If this does not happen today, the film will not be made. To make a film with that kind of budget, you need the kind of actors who come together and work on the project. It should be beyond you and your stardom. We have to put the project and the vision first". Yash said that he would probably not play any other character other than Ravana in the epic story.

Yash further said about the character of Ravana, "It is a very fascinating character. I don't do it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me, 'Would you play any other character?' then probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor, so I really like the nuances and shades of that character. There is a lot of scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it will be a very unique way to do it."
