Young Shah Rukh Khan’s original dream was 'not' to become a Bollywood super-star! King Khan always aspired to be a star sportsman or cricketer !! by Chaitanya Padukone

Bollywood Badshah Shah Rukh Khan is in a super-happy mood ever since his terrific team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), won and lifted the IPL trophy (2024) by beating Sun-Risers Hyderabad (SRH). Speaking to the news media, the dimpled Bollywood superstar who has had a hat-trick of three mega-hits movies during last year 2023,  disclosed that his original dream as a youngster was of becoming a sportsman or maybe a cricketer or a footballer or athlete. Unfortunately, the practical SRK had to give up his sports-ambition due to financial constraints, which compelled him to shift focus to acting instead.

The frank, outspoken romantic-heart-throb SRK has said “I always wanted to be a sportsman. I never wanted to be an actor, to be honest. But then once I got badly hurt while playing. Frankly, I didn’t have the money to get expensive treatment treated, so I had to give up. In fact I was sometimes the ‘wicket-keeper’ during local cricket-matches At that time in India, in the ‘90s, the chances for a sports career were also less, but I always wanted to have something to do with sports.”, “shares Shah Rukh

It may be recalled the Shah Rukh convincingly played the realistic role of a hockey-coach in female hockey-centric YRF classic National Film Award-winning sports movie Chak De! India (2007)  In this multiple awards-winning sports movie Shah Rukh  (known for his stylized screen- romance) did ‘not’ have any romantic heroine opposite him!  Yet audiences and his loyal fans admired his realistic, de-glam performance. As the disgraced, exiled disciplined hockey-coach “Kabir Khan” who refuses to give up and achieves supreme victory in the end...

Out of the 14 IPL tournaments, KKR has won three titles. During the news-media discussion, King Khan also reacted on how some cricket-critics’ comments on KKR’s failures to win more tournaments affected him. SRK said, “We have the nicest team. We kept losing repeatedly. The saddest moment was when someone told me, ‘Only their costume is good, their game-play isn’t good. It used to hurt... For team-mentor Gautam Gambhir to come back with a big bang and achieve this was outstanding. It taught us how to lose sportingly but never to be losers all-the-time and never give up hope. Sports teaches you that,”  said the flamboyant Khan.

The ‘Pathaan’ mega-star also revealed that he also shares a sense of friendly-bonding with most other IPL team owners. “We speak with each other about our losses and wins and even laugh. We discuss whether it was a good day or a bad day, as regards the final scores.”

Being outdoors in the scorching summer-heat of Ahmedabad ( Gujarat) affected the ‘Baazigar’ hero.  The otherwise fit and fine Shah Rukh Khan fell ill due to a severe heat-stroke and was admitted to an Ahmedabad hospital just before the IPL final match. However, this did not dampen the adamant superstar’s determination to mentor-support his team. After receiving necessary local medical treatment, the ‘Jawaan’ hero attended KKR’s final IPL match cheered them up and witnessed how his terrific team win and lift the prestigious IPL trophy.
