Government of Uttarakhand organized a gathering for film fraternity of Mumbai, on 29th August at Hotel Taj Mahal. A delegation from the Government of Uttarakhand, led by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat met leading film producers, directors and various other leaders of the film industry to highlight vast opportunities for film shooting in Uttarakhand.
Eminent experts of the Indian Film & TV Industry that met and interacted with the Government of Uttarakhand delegation include Mr. Mahesh Bhatt, Producer and Director, Vishesh Films, Mr. Subhash Ghai, Producer and Director, Mukta Arts, Mr. Prasoon Joshi, Chairperson, Central Board of film Certification, Mumbai, Mr. Vikramajeet Roy, Head, Film Facilitation Office, National Film Development Corporation, The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Mr. Satish Kaushik, Producer and Director, Karol Baug Productions, Mr. T.P. Agarwal, President, Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association, Mr. Annu Malik, Music Composer and Playback Singer, Mr. Sonu Sood, Actor, Ms. Anuradha Paudwal, Playback Singer among others.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat said “We are pleased to have the eminent representatives of the film industry present at the gathering. Uttarakhand offers a plethora of scenic locations that are apt for film shooting and at the same time we have various incentives that enables ease of film shooting in the state. We have also established the required ecosystem for film shooting in the state, for which Uttarakhand was awarded a Special Mention Certificate for Film Friendly Environment’ by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Senior Government of Uttarakhand officials present at the gathering included Mr. Utpal Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary, Ms. Manisha Panwar, Principal Secretary, Industries, Mr. Dilip Jawalkar, Secretary, Tourism and Ms. Sowjanya, Director General & Commissioner, Industries and MD, SIIDCUL among others. The Government of Uttarakhand delegation invited the entire film fraternity to participate in Uttarakhand’s maiden global summit ‘Destination Uttarakhand Investors Summit 2018’ scheduled for 7 & October, 2018 at Dehradun.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Vishal Bharadwaj said “Uttarakhand is a great destination to shoot films, owing to several scenic locations in the state. One of my movie was shot primarily in Nainital and my first show with Mr. Pankaj Kapur for Zee TV was also shot in the state.”
Mr. Prasoon Joshi said “I have fond memories of the place as I was born there. There are some beautiful places like Chopta, Ranikhet and Rishikesh among other, that are can mesmerize the viewers of cinema. Uttarakhand has an immense potential to become a preferred destination for film shooting in India.”
Additionally, eminent guests like Siddharth Roy Kapur, Kulmeet Makkar, Mukesh Bhatt, Ramesh Sippy, Boney Kapoor among others acknowledged the vast opportunities offered by the state in the film shooting sector and also shared their interest in shooting their films at some of the mesmerizing locations of Uttarakhand.

Further, to facilitate ease of film shooting in Uttarakhand, the state government is planning to set up a nodal office in Mumbai, which will act as single point of contact for film fraternity. Under Uttarakhand Film Policy 2015, films (based on merits) having more than 50% or more outdoor shooting in Uttarakhand will be made tax free. Additionally, the state government offers grants towards expenditure incurred in processing of Films as well as various exemptions from shooting charges.
