It was February 5 , 1976 . Amitabh was at the peak after films like Zanjeer, Abhimaan , Sholay and Deewaar . He was shooting for a film directed by Prakash Mehra when there was a call for him - Ali Peter John
(There were no mobiles those days ) and Amitabh burst into a smile and told Mehra that he would have to go because his wife Jaya had given birth to their first born son. That son was to grow up and become Abhishek Bachchan.
Abhishek showed no inclination towards acting and concentrated on his studies and went from one school to another till he realised that acting was what he was cut out for .
Was it because of the popularity of his father that he got intrested in acting so seriously ? I have my own reason to believe that it was. Abhishek used to accompany his father during all his major shootings and I perticulerly remember the shooting of S Ramanathan's " Mahaan" at the Pashupatinath temple in Nepal where he tried to take part in all the action sequences which his father was a part of and his father had to stop him saying ," This is not child's play . You can do it all when you grow up " . Amitabh could have not even dreamt that Abhishek would be an actor one day.
Abhishek had all the opertunities to learn more about acting and filmmaking when he joined Amitabh's company , ABCL as a junior production executive , but who worked harder than any of his seniors .
He worked for ABCL till it collapsed and only came back as a hero in a film called , " Tera Jaadu Chalgaya" ( I don't know why no one is willing to accept that this film was the the first film of Abhishek ? was it because the film was an unmitigated disaster and Abhishek was even hooted out ? ) but Abhishek received his first appreciation and applause for J P Dutta's war " Refugee" and then there was no stopping Abhishek , but he really came into his own with films like " Dhoom" , "Bunty Aur Babli" ( his first film with his father ), "Yuva", "Paa" ( which he also produced ) " All is Well" "Guru" , "Umrao Jaan" and till the recently released on OTT films like "The Big Bull" "Bob Biswas".
These films and some others established Abhishek as on of the formibable actors and he was no longer known as Amitabh Bachchan's son and the poet Dr Harivanshrai Bacchans grandson . He had finally found a place of his own .
It is this Abhishek Bachchan who will now be on a severe test with his new film " Dasvi" which is an exclusive release on OTT . Will Abhishek Bachchan be the star of the millenium of the OTT platform ? . Dasvi is an entertaining film with the focus being on education .
Will it be on the lines of Irfan Khan's English Medium and Hindi Medium ? " Only time will tell and the time is not far off . Dasvi also has Yami Gautam and Nimrat Kaur in leading roles ..
The time ahead will see Abhishek in several interesting roles , especially in films like "Bachchan Singh" but , biggest challenge for him is the one offered to him by Sanjay Leela Bhansali , who has it is learnt has asked Abhishek to prepare to pay the role of the poet Sahir Ludhianvi . If and when the film is made and if Abhishek does justice to the character of Sahit Ludhianvi , I vow to touch his feet in public
Abhishek has not only grown as an actor , he has also been a very good grandson ,son , husband , brother and father . He is also an avid sportsman and has been promoting the most neglected games like kabaddi and different forms of athletics . His dominant source of inspiration is not so much his father , but his mother Jaya Bachchan .
AMITABH BACHCHAN KE CHAAON MEIN BADA HONA MUMKEEN HI NAHI, NAAMUMKIN THA , LEKIN ABHISHEK BACHCHAN NE YE MUSKIL KAAM BHI KAR DIKHAYA AUR USKE LIYE ABHISHEK KO HUM SAB KA SALAAM .
