Defying his 83 years ‘young’ age, the energetic living legend actor-singer ‘showman’ Biswajeet regaled the enthralled audience with amazing songs and recalling nostalgic anecdotes with his incredible memory, at a non-stop live houseful concert last evening . Among the highlights of the evening, was the tribute vocal performance on stage by star playback singer Javed Ali , senior actress Padmini Kolhapure ( the audience went ga-ga over her singing) and interactions with the charming actress Poonam Dhillon. And of course the surprise dance performance by the charismatic Prima Chatterjee ( talented daughter of Biswajeet-da—who is being launched in showbiz next year). The fabulous entertaining live show titled ‘Bemisaal Biswajeet-Live’ ,at Bandra in Mumbai compered by the music-savvy RJ Anmol Sood, was convened by impresario Rajesh Negi ( of ‘Movie Magic’) and had excellent singers like Shefali Taggarsi, Sarvesh Mishra and Rajesh Iyer. Among the celebrity turn-out in the audience was veteran film-producer Kiran Shantaram , beautiful actress Shantipriya ( Akshay Kumar’s first heroine), noted singers Ranu Mukherjee ( legendary composer-singer Hemant Kumar’s daughter) and Chandrani Mukherjee. As is known, suspense-hero cum-musical lover-boy of the ‘golden era’ Biswajeet ( he celebrated his birthday last Saturday) is known for Hindi landmark Hindi movies like 'Bees Saal Baad', 'Kohraa' ' April Fool' , Mere Sanam' 'Kismat' and of course 'Main Sunder Hoon'.etc .
While Biswajeet has sung a large number of playback songs in his Bengali film, he declined to do the same for his roles in Hindi movies. Explains the veteran actor, “ Even the revered film-maker Manmohan Desai who directed me in the musical super-hit ‘Kismat’, insisted that I should sing my playback, but I refused politely. Simply because in Hindi my focus was only on acting and I did not wish to deviate. This decision mattered a lot in my Bollywood success story, “shrugs the affable actor whose ‘live’ awesome showmanship-on-stage is to be seen to be believed . “ Right from childhood I had this flair for performing on stage and I have always loved to entertain the audience. Although I have not formally learnt classical music I have been a good singer with an inborn music and rhythm-sense. The loyal love-adulation of my global fans-audiences keeps me in full swing and I derive my energy from there and from blessings of Maa Durga, “ shares Biswajeet who incidentally shares his birthday ( Dec 14) with that of yet another legendary ‘showman ‘Raj Kapoor’. As part of the ‘Pukarta Chala Hoon Main’ show, Biswajeet paid rich (musical ) tributes to his mentor-inspiration Ashok Kumar, and of course to Dev Anand and Dlip Kumar.
