"Love, Respect And Unity Made Us Win ACB And Become Champions"- Rahul Lohani

Rahuol Lohani talks to JYOTHI VENKATESH about his experience of playing and winning Actors Cricket Bash.

How do you feel on winning the first season of ACB

It is a great experience and a great moment for the entire team. I still remember the day one, when we all met, except one or two people like Sharad as I know him since ages, others were new and we didn't know how everyone will play. We were very uncertain and unsure about the team. But there was something between all of us - The Mumbai Aces team, we actually gelled really well, there was so much of love and respect for everyone, we came for the practice every day and Sharad used to tell us that we all have to be there, and we used to leave our work and reach the next day. We won this tournament not only because of our love and understanding for the cricket but because of the love, respect and unity which made us the champion.

What contributed the most in the teams winning?

All the 80 players who played in this tournament knew how to play cricket, as our religion is cricket and all of our backgrounds has been with cricket. We wanted to be cricketers but weren't able to because of lack of opportunities and we became actors. We were cricketers from the inside but never got a chance to play as such, but the thing which contributed the most was each others’ respect. We all obeyed the captain and whatever he said, for us, it was the final call.

Who were your favorite players and why?

There are so many good players like from Chennai, we had Abhishek Kapoor, who was a fabulous cricketer and he tried his best, unfortunately, he couldn't play well in finals but throughout the tournament, he played really well. I didn't know him well personally but after the tournament, I have become his fan because of his game. Suyesh and Karan Wahi are my old friends. We used to play together in Boxy Boyz and both are excellent cricketers, but Karan Wahi doesn't get time because of his shooting, Suyesh is more into singing now, so they were not able to practice more but otherwise they are excellent cricketers. Savant is also an amazing cricketer. Abhishek Verma was an all-rounder and was the Chris Gayle of our team, Shiv was also a very good cricketer and has risen as the nightmare for all the players.

Any controversies you experienced in this season?

Being actors whatever we do normally becomes news. Controversies are created to make something popular, but as far as I know, Dilip Agrawal who takes cricket seriously. If you are taking your shoot seriously than you have to take your cricket also seriously if you are playing in ACB. He is very passionate and that's why this tournament came out to be so good and grand, in spite of being season 1. So there were no chances of the controversies and he made sure that everyone is comfortable. When Savant got injured so badly, the ambulance was ready with the doctor and this thing only Dilip can think of.

How would u sum up the whole experience?

It was a great experience as inside each one of us there is a cricketer and then an actor. BCL is also equally difficult as playing with a soft ball is also not that easy, but there, entertainment is more important. So we are not able to display cricket. But this platform is a place where you have to be physically fit, and you have to run equally as an international cricketer runs. If you have to put an equal effort like an international cricketer does to hit 4 or 6. This ACB has fulfilled the chances of every actor who did not get a chance to play the actual cricket. In season 2 also, there would be a lot of actors who would play cricket at a very great level and this ACB platform would get bigger and at a grander level.

What is the best part of a tournament like ACB for you? Also, is there any part of the league that you would like to change?

Normally people feel that these actors are only good in acting and nothing else. So through ACB these actors get a chance to show their skills and physical abilities.

f any entertainer would have organized this tournament, then there would have been a lot of things to change, but since the organiser of ACB himself is a cricketer, he knows what all things should happen. So I don't think there is any scope of change, one or two minute changes can be done but otherwise, I don't feel any change is required. Those who want to play cricket in the next season, they would watch these matches on youtube and would see the seriousness of cricket and they would want to be a part of the tournament. So I don’t see any scope of change, everything was perfect.

What makes ACB stand out according to you ?

There are many actors, so the scope of getting more teams is also. I feel that the way this season has gone, in the coming seasons, auditions would begin because ACB has the ability to reach that height. So I am seeing great success for ACB, not just for the organisers but also for the actors.

What do you have to say about Dilip Agrawal who has started this amazing league ACB ?

Dilip Agrawal, I know him since Boxy Boyz, and his passion for cricket is amazing. This tournament began because Boxy Boyz cricket had around 8-9 actors who used to play and today there are 80 players. So, it was a task to make everyone play in every match as everyone thought that Dilip would do partiality and would allow only some to play. So Dilip came up with this idea of organizing a tournament of making our teams and playing with one another so that everyone gets a chance to display their abilities. Dilip will never take this sport lightly and whatever he will do would be great, which is my guarantee.
