Chaitanya Padukone
The handsome, suave 61-year old Tapas Paul, lead Bollywood debuting actor of Rajshri production ‘Abodh’ (1984) is no more. Apparently he suffered a massive heart attack in Mumbai and passed away at a local hospital where he was admitted, in the wee hours of Tuesday. The former Trinamool Congress M.P. Tapas-da who has over 60 Bengali movies to his credit including milestones like Dadar Kirti, Saheb , Parabat Priya Bhalobasa Bhalobasa, Anurager Choyan , Amar Baler Bandhan , happens to be the first romantic hero of co-star Madhuri Dixit in ‘Abodh’ . Sensitive Madhuri who is believed to be “shocked” (according to a source very close to her) having heard about her first hero’s untimely demise, had after the release of ‘Abodh’ , described Tapas to me in 1984, as ‘a gentle, chivalrous hero with a good sense of humor and that she would love to work with him, again sometime in future’.
In her latest, madame Madhuri has reacted with “the loss of Tapas Paul who was one of the very first actors, I have worked with is felt by many. May God bless and comfort his family during this difficult period” When I had briefly met Tapas-da in Kolkata, many years ago, he said he was very delighted to observe how Madhuri, his first heroine, has emerged such a phenomenal Bollywood superstar and he even urged that Madhuri should also act in a Bengali film as well with him as her co-star. RIP Tapas-Da . Incidentally, Madhuri is already mourning the death of her veteran make-up man Pandhari-Dada-Juker. In her tweet, Madhuri has shared, “Saddened to hear of the passing of Pandhari Dada, who has worked with everyone from Meena kumari to Madhubala to today. I have very fond memories of him working together in Tezaab, Ram Lakhan & many more. He made everyone look beautiful & elegant on screen. May his soul rest in peace.”
