Marathi Film And Television Actor Ramesh Bhatkar Dies Due To Lung Cancer At 70

My very good friend Marathi film actor Ramesh Bhatkar has passed away today evening. The legend who was very affable to each and everyone is no more. At the age of 70, he breathed his last at the Elizabeth Hospital in Mumbai. He was suffering from lung cancer and was undergoing treatment in Pune and Mumbai for the last one year. Ramesh was known for his work in television series such as Commander and Hello Inspector. He made his debut with the Marathi movie Chandoba Chandoba Bhaglaas way back in 1977. He went on to work in Ashta Vinayak (1978), Duniya Kari Salam, Maaherchi Manasa, Aapli Maanasa, and Maherchi Sadi. He was also active in plays. Ironically when he was the topmost TV actor in the 80’s, he lived a very simple and austere life and believe it or not he did not even possess a TV set in his house because he did not want his son’s studies to be affected.

Ramesh is survived by his wife Mrudula who is an advocate in High Court and son Harshavardhan Bhatkar. He was known for his work in Teesra Dola (1998). He also had appeared in Marathi films like Hadhapar, Yugandhara and Bandini. Ramesh Bhatkar was born in 1949. His father was Snehal (Vasudeo) Bhatkar, a music director and singer. Ironically today 4 February happens to the World Cancer Day and a life gets lost on the same day. May his soul rest in peace. According to his co-actor Jaywant Wadkar, Ramesh fought bravely as much as he could. But in the last one month, he was in tremendous pain and we all were worried. He was in ICU for the last fifteen days”. Ramesh Bhatkar’s last rites will be held tonight at 10.30 pm at Shivaji Park.
