To commemorate the joyous occasion of Children's Day on Tuesday, 14th November, Jio Studios and SVF released the official poster of the great Mithun Chakraborty's much-awaited Bengali film 'Kabuliwala' on this special day. Sixty-six years ago in 1957, filmmaker Tapan Sinha had made a film with the same name based on this timeless story written by Rabindranath Tagore. Bengali actor Chhavi Biswas played the role of Rahmat in Tapan Sinha's film. Now, sixty years later, this cinematic endeavor under the direction of filmmaker Suman Ghosh is all set to enthral the audiences on the occasion of Christmas with its compelling narrative, promising an indelible and immersive experience. The poster of 'Kabuliwala' shows the paternal affection between Mithun Chakraborty's character and a little girl. In the poster, Mithun Chakraborty wearing a turban is seen walking on the road with a little girl. Behind them one can see the old-world architecture of a city and a Bengali language banner and some people sitting in the background. Mithun Chakraborty is in the lead role of Rahmat in the film 'Kabuliwala' directed by Suman Ghosh, child artist Anumegha Kahali is playing the role of Mini. Bengali actors Abir Chatterjee and Sohini Sarkar are playing the role of Mini's parents respectively. It has been composed with music by Indradeep Das Gupta. This is Mithun Chakraborty's second film with Suman Ghosh. Before this, both of them had worked together in the film 'Noblechor' eleven years ago.
‘Kabuliwala’, written in 1892, depicts the fatherly love of a middle-aged Afghan man named Rahmat for Mini, a little girl from Kolkata. Rehmat, who comes to the then capital of the British Indian Empire to sell dry fruits and enter the money-lending business, forms a relationship with his patron's five-year-old daughter who reminds him of his own child back home.
Suman Ghosh has earlier made films like 'Nobelchor' based on the theft of Tagore's Nobel Prize medal from Shantiniketan, apart from films like 'Dwando', 'Kadambari', 'Me Amor', 'The Argument able Indian', 'Basu Poribar', 'Aadhaar'. He has won many awards by directing.
Directed by Suman Ghosh, 'Kabuliwala' is a heart-touching story that transcends geographical boundaries and cultural disparities, set in 1960s Kolkata.
This timeless story written by Rabindranath Tagore has also inspired Hindi filmmakers. This includes the 1961 film of the same name made by Hemen Gupta starring Balraj Sahni in the lead role and the 2008 film 'Bioscopewala' starring Danny Dengzongpa directed by Deb Medhekar. Is.
Releasing its poster on Children's Day, the makers of the film said in a statement, "To bring happiness among the audiences including children during the festive season, Kabuliwala is scheduled for a festive release during Christmas 2023."
