Half Baked and Unimpressive!

Jyothi Venkatesh

This spoof comedy narrates the story of a cop Arjun Patiala (Diljit Dosanjh) and his sidekick Oneida Singh (Varun Sharma). Together, the film goes around their daily activities and sets out to tell whether they be able to accomplish their mission of setting up a crime-free town with their goofy style of policing? The film begins as a narration by a story writer to a rich fat producer (Pankaj Tripathi) while Ritu Randhawa (Kriti Sanon) enters Arjun’s life by chance and their love story begins.

Diljit Dosanjh delivers a decent performance with a few laugh-out-loud moments and makes himself endearing in a role that does not require him o show off his histrionics but just needs him to cater to public taste. His innocence brings out the vulnerability of his character that is instantly likeable. His leading lady Kriti Sanon looks flawless, but the same cannot be said about her half baked character, which h does not at all trigger the proceedings of the film, which seems to be headed nowhere.

This film clearly sets out to prove once and for all that spoof comedies can be a tricky affair and is way too underwhelming to tickle your funny bone and that too for full two hours, without a coherent screenplay for the national audiences as it abounds with Punjab is in the form of Diljit Dosanjh, Kriti Sanon, Varun Sharma, and is directed by Rohit Jugraj who has belted out several hits in Punjabi. It is no wonder that you feel that you are sitting through a dubbed  B grade Punjabi film.

Sadly, Ritesh Shah and Sandeep Leyzell’s half baked and hastily written script fails to rise to the occasion and hence Arjun Patiala loses its way between a parody and just another run-of-the-mill film despite its fancy graphics and video game treatment in the climax. Though Diljit has earned his stripes in Punjabi cinema , unfortunately the bitter truth is that and needs better roles than what Arjun Patiala or Welcome to New York have offered him in Hindi till now.
