Tacky and Long winding!

Jyothi Venkatesh

The movie draws its reference from the religious book Navnath Bhaktisar. It mainly deals with the birth and other mythological tales around the birth and lives of the saints mentioned in the book. It is about a young couple, played by Amol (Dr Amol Kolhe) and Aditi (Siya Patil), whose work brings them to a remote village, where they meet Chaitanya (Ghanshyam Yede), an ardent follower of the saints in the ‘Nath sampraday’, a school of thought, who ends up narrating religious stories about these saints to them.

Aditi believes in God, but Amol, an engineer who has shifted to this village to oversee the construction of an upcoming factory, is shown to be an atheist. Gradually, when Chaitanya starts narrating the tales, Amol turns into a staunch believer. In their personal lives, the couple who are unable to have a biological child resort to surrogacy. At a certain point though, Aditi has second thoughts about the same. However, when her father narrates another tale from the book, she is convinced that surrogacy indeed is the way forward.

While it is nice to see Dr Amol Kolhe playing a different social character instead of clinging to historical ro`les, Siyaa Patil endears to the viewers with her pleasant screen presence. Ghanshyam Vishnupant Dube appears more than necessary and makes an attempt to hog the scene besides producing and directing the film. Nagesh Bhosale is good as usual while Deepak Shrike impresses with his role. Prafulla Samant scores as Siyaa’s father though he has hardly any scope as an actor. Music by Vishal Borulkar is soothing and melodious to the core. It looks like the film has been designed keeping the front benchers as well as the rural audiences in mind and hence on the whole, it is doubtful whether the tacky and long winding film will be able to get footfalls in urban cities as well as multiplexes and hence even if you say Alakh Niranjan , it will not save the film’s fate.
