Pencil Thin Plot but Fun Unlimited!

Dokyala Shot is a story of four friends, Abhijit (Suvrat Joshi), Bhajji (Rohit Haldikar), Chandu (Omkar Govardhan) and Ganesh (Ganesh Pandit). One day, while playing cricket, Bhajji hits a shot and Abhijit runs to catch the ball. But, in the process, he trips and falls, hitting his head on a rock. Abhijit is set to get married to a pretty Tamilian girl called Subbalakshmi Iyengar (Prajakta Mali) in a couple of days. Will he gain his memory back before that? This is the pencil thin plot of the film directed by Debutant director Shivkumar Parthasarthy. What follows is a hilarious comedy that takes the viewers on a joyride.

Dokyala Shot is the remake of the Tamil hit Naduvila Konjam Pakkatha Kanom, and sets out to tackle an unusual conflict about what happens when a traditional Marathi boy marries a Tamil girl. The film looks like a light-hearted take on inter-community marriages. The subject is similar to the Hindi movie 2 States (2014), in which Alia Bhatt played a Tamil girl, while Arjun Kapoor was a Punjabi guy. Joshi is a well-known TV actor. He made his Marathi film debut last year with Shikari (2018), and followed it up with Party (2018). Prajakta Mali has worked in a few Marathi films, including Party. She played Kashi Bai recently in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.

Though logic is not a stronghold of this film, the film is a good watch. Falling in the Hera Pheri and Golmaal category of film, Dokyala Shot is a laugh riot, primarily because of the story, execution and comic timing of its actors. The director has succeeded in adapting the Tamil scenario into the Marathi milieu, with effortless ease, even incorporating a melodious Tamil song as part of the track. On the whole, Dokyala Shot is a fun film which will keep the youth engrossed though the screenplay looks a tad bit contrived towards the climax.
