Movie Review: Good Newwz
Producers- Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar
Director- Raj Mehta
Star Cast- Akshay Kumar, Diljit Dosanjh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Kiara Advani and Anjana Kuthiala
Deepti (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and Varun Batra (Akshay Kumar) are a posh married couple, living in Mumbai and much involved with their respective careers. Deepti also has her heart set on having a baby and after trying for a few years and both Varun and she decide to consult one of the best fertility specialists in the city. The doctor advises to opt for IVF but, few days after the procedure is through, Deepti and Varun are told there has been a sperm mix-up with a loud couple -Honey Batra and Monika (Kiara Advani) from Chandigarh in the clinic. Deepti and Monika soon find out they are pregnant, and the rest of the film is about how the couples come to terms and deal with this unusual situation.
As far as performances while both Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kahn live their roles with sincerity, Diljit Dosanjh and Kiara Advani stand out with their impressive performances though Daljeet tends to become too loud occasionally. Hats off to Kareena Kapoor Khan for her Kartik Aryan kind of non- stop one page dialogue which is a single shot in which she speaks frankly and openly about the impact of pregnancy on a female body, without pausing even for breathing: Anjana Sukhani is okay as the sister Aduil Hussain rises above his small role while Tisca Arora as his wife impresses.
Raj Mehta has made a superb debut with the film which and keeps it real when it comes to showing urban relationships — daily lives of married couples, their fights, worries, wanting to have kids and careers etc.The film lacks a cohesive screenplay but is rich in dialogues, though some of them tend to be off color jokes as well as double meaning ones. However, in today’s day and age, dialogues such as ‘being pregnant is a blessing for any woman’ or ‘apna khoon apna hota hai’ definitely sound very regressive and out of date. It is difficult to relish the fact that Akshay Kumar who is a manager at a car showroom and his wife Kareena who is a high profile film journalist who is shown interviewing stars like Aklia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif etc are living in a posh apartment.
On the whole, to sum up, I’d say that the film though it is inspired by the countless lost and found plots of the films of the 90’s has a refreshing content which is modern and does not bore you at all though it may put off the rural audiences with its modern dialogues
