Jyothi Venkatesh Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) faces an old foe who returns to stalk her and her family 40 years after her first encounter with the masked killer, Michael Myers. Way back in 1978, John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ established the genre of horror films, wherein a disturbed person or group of people use knives, hammers etc to hunt down and hack away at hapless victims. Fortunately, this new version goes back to the basics and ramps up what worked 40 years ago. The iconic soundtrack, the spooky atmosphere and Michael Meyers’ familiar mask are all back to torment Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). The harrowing experience changes not just her life, but also that of her daughter, Karen (Judy Greer). Over the years, this has alienated Laurie from her daughter and to some extent, her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak). Laurie’s insistence on being vigilant and overcautious is integral to the storyline, and wouldn’t work but for the veteran actress. Halloween would have superseded its prequel, if there was no twist that is downright abysmal. Too many side characters crowd the narrative especially when they don’t add much overall, and instead, distract from the main plot. Laurie has spent the last four decades in preparation and in fear - of Michael’s inevitable return wondering whether or not she will be able to protect her daughter and granddaughter from him. Halloween revives an almost forgotten sub-genre and gives fans a bloody good time, though, though to give credit to the filmmaker, the murder every time is very scary and what’s more in new style. To sum up, it is scary but at the same time predictable! For more Bollywood updates, follow Bollyy!
