Realistic Ode!

Inspired by true events, the film follows a group of intelligence officers led by Prabhat (Arjun Kapoor) who track down India’s most wanted terrorist and capture him without the help of weapons, monetary support or their own organizational backup. The film set in Kathmandu sets out to recreate in a realistic manner the audacious capture of the Indian Mujahideen founder-terrorist Yasin Bhatkal, who is renamed as Yusuf here through a covert operation undertaken way back in 2013 by an unlikely bunch of Intelligence Bureau officers, which definitely exposes the shortcomings in our system and psyche.

The best thing about the film is that Raj Kumar Gupta, who had earlier churned out gems like No One Killed Jessica, Raid and Aamir does not at all succumb to the tropes of a conventional spy thriller and the Intelligence Officers don’t even have modern technical gadgets or fancy cars at their disposal. Also they are not at all put on a high pedestal or revered as heroes or pretend to be heroic but are just ordinary men. Unlike Kesari which shows the heroine  coming intermittently from the past in his dreams, there is no heroine and she is referred to by Arjun only in his whats app messages of love.

Instead of making it as an edge of the seat thriller, the director sets out to make a film which lacks in drama and meekly gallivants with a half baked screenplay which leaves a lot to be desired.  It progresses more as a dry documentary and the only actor who seems to be interesting and suiting the part is Arjun Kapoor who needs to shed the extra pounds though his get up suits the part he is playing in the film. Rajesh Singh scores as the boss of Prabhat.

All said and done,  India’s Most Wanted is a sincere and earnest ode to the unsung heroes of our country who are ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of the country and do not want reward or award  for the same. Go and watch it if you like gritty dramas and shun the typical commercial stuff!
