Movie Review: Judgment (Marathi)

Moth eaten and Illogical Premise!

Based on Nila Satyanarayan`s novel `Runn`, revolves around the story of a maniac IAS officer Agnivesh Satam, played by Mangesh Kadam who tortures his wife when he is disappointed when she makes him the father of  two girl children and fails to get him a son. Tragedy befalls when the maniac officer strangulates his wife and she is found dead after she undergoes an illegal fetus test in her third pregnancy and the husband comes to know that she is going to deliver a daughter once again. She is survived by her father Aaba played by Madhav Abhyankar and two daughters, one of whom (Rituja Satam, who plays Tejashree Pradhan) grows up to become an advocate and sees to it that the case is reopened to fight for justice for her mother. Will Justice prevail?

The film which explores the human psyche shows the journey of Tejashri Pradhan. Whether she will get the justice in the case, is what the real crux of the story is. Though Tejashree Pradhan has lived her role effortlessly, the credit for etching a good performance ought to go to Mangesh Kadam for making the viewer hate him for his portrayal as the father who is obsessed with getting a male heir. KIshori Ambiye, who is a good actress, has been wasted in an inane role as a neighbor with just a scene

The trouble with the film is the court drama which goes on and on and the screenplay which leaves a lot to be desired. In today’s times, it is illogical to show an IAS officer who is obsessed with having only sons. On the wedding night with his second wife, after he kills his first wife, the IAS officer tells his second wife that he will allow her to have sex with him only if she promises him that she will bear a son. The film ought to have been slicker with sharper editing.

To sum up, Judgment has a story which is moth eaten and has no logic whatsoever and drags on and on making you squirm in your seat and wonder when it will screen to a halt, though it begins on a promising note.
