Kaanchli is a Rajasthani folk tale rendered in sexual opacity, which revolves around the trials and tribulations of a beautiful young girl called Kajri, (Shikha Malhotra) who is married to a villager called Kishnu. Attracted by the heavy bosomed Kajri, who goes around the village flaunting her ample cleavage, the impoverished pervert Thakur (Lalit Parimoo) tempts Kishnu (Nareshpal Singh Chauhan) by appointing him as one of his chosen Ratnas and commands his henchman cum pimp Bhoja (Sanjay Mishra) to lure the unwilling. Kajri to his haveli.. Kajri who is very loyal towards her husband thwarts Thakur’s advances. However Kishnu who has always wanted to climb up the social ladder warns Kajri to not offend the Thakur ever again as he wants to be in his good books. Kajri is heartbroken as she never imagines her husband will leave her all alone to fight with the world.
Kajri feels that if her husband sees him with any other man he will definitely react. When Bhoja too falls for her charm, Kajri gets the idea to test her husband by using Bhoja to see his reaction, but is in despair to know that even Bhoja is only interested in her body and does not love her. How the woman makes an attempt to combat the two sexually-motivated individuals, in addition to her ‘cold’ husband, and is left angry with every male since they are only interested in exploiting her sexually and do not love her at all, forms the crux of the story. The idea of the director is definitely to stun the male gaze with a surfeit of visuals focused more on the bountiful heroine’s burgeoning heaving cleavage that too topped with a shadowy nude scene thrown in for good measure than to make a cohesive film which abounds with logic.
Shikha Malhotra succeeds in parts in convincing the viewer as an actress and is also effective doubling up or is it tripling up as a choreographer as well as costume designer of the film. Lalit Parimoo is primarily wasted in an inconsequential role while Sanjay Mishra livens his role by infusing his villainous character with buffoonery. Nareshpal Singh Chauhan impresses as the meek husband. The narrative flows at a slumberous pace and the editing ought to have been slicker. Director Dedipya Joshi who had made a effective dim like Sankal earlier loses his grip as the plot also written by him goes haywire halfway through the film, which ends on an abrupt note of despair
