Misogyny at its best with indulgent pace!

Kabir Singh is an official remake of the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy. The film charts the journey of a short tempered doctor Kabir Singh (Shahid Kapoor), whose obsession for his girlfriend leads him on the path to self-destruction. Can the guy who boozes, smokes , takes drug and kisses his girl friend every time he can lay his lips on her come out of the dark world that he creates for himself is what the film sets out to tell the viewers. Kabir is uncontrollable and becomes a rebel with a cause as soon as he sees his junior in college Preeti (Kiara Advani). For him, it is love at first sight.

At the outset, the director takes the easy route and merely adapts the Hindi version as a frame to remake of his own Telugu hit film without bothering to keep in mind the nativity when set out to make the Hindi remake. It is frustrating for the gullible viewer to sit through this exercise where n educated surgeon goes on a spree of killing himself by smoking and doing drugs with an air of impunity and even starts feeling that what he does is always right.

The college girl Preeti behave more like a doormat and does not object to any move by Shahid when he makes his amorous advances towards her. What’s more, she even agrees to move in with him and start living with him in the hostel where even the warden is afraid of, forget admonishing him even punishing him. The girl ditches him after he makes her pregnant though he is not aware of her pregnancy through him while he goes to become a menace socially by doing more drugs and smoking.

While the film rests on Shahid’s broad shoulders, Kiara Advani fails to live up to the promise and has been wasted as a poker faced moron. Shahid’s trusted friend Shiva (Soham  Majumdar) has more space than Kiara an d also gets ample opportunity to show solid support even when his friend is way out of line. While Arjan Bajwa does give justice to his role as Kabir’s elder brother, it is a pleasure to watch Kamini Kaushal and Suresh Oberoi after a long gap of time in roles of substance

To sum up, the film tests your patience and makes you tired with its unwinding journey since it has a running time of around three hours. I’d advise you to avoid seeing a drag like this and instead watch the web series Kaafir on Zee5, which is at least thought provoking
