The film is a period drama that traces the history of gold mining and the mafia running it in the generous fields of Karnataka’s Kolar region. The film traces the journey of Rocky an ambitious boy, who wants to die as the richest and most powerful man. From the streets of Bombay to the fields of KGF, he embarks on the sordid and tough mission. His tale is being retold by a journalist who chronicled his life in the 1980s.

Though I’d say that the film has a fast-paced first half, thanskl to the haphazard editing and the director’s obsession to treat his film  in a non linear fashion with the emphasis on violence, it seems a little long, but the second half and the climax sets up the right premise for the second part of the film.

Yash who is a super star in Kannada Cinema fits the bill with his robust and stylized performance in the title role while Srinidhi Shetty who shows promise in the beginning is shortlisted with a minuscule role and hence her character can be easily dispensable

Though the ambitious film has been made on a huge budget and is said to be the most expensive film ever made in the Kannada cinema, obviously inspired a lot by Bahubali and its second franchise and  KGF is having a pan India release, it is a pity that the Hindi film audiences may not like too much of violence and the fact that this kind of a plot has come up in umpteen number of films in recent times and to many unknown faces  for the Hindi film audiences and the bad dubbing will certainly prove to be a big deterrent at the box office tough the Kannada original may emerge a winner at the box office and what’s more a sequel may also be spun of this film in Kannada.
