The film touches the controversial topic of sex education in a roundabout manner. When Baby Bedi (Sonakshi Sinha) is entrusted with a job of running controversial sex clinic ‘Khandaani Shafakhana’, in a small town of Punjab, she obviously faces severe backlash from all quarters. Because she has inherited from her uncle the sex clinic where everything from erectile dysfunction and low sperm count, to early ejaculation and injuries during passionate sexual encounters, is cured with Unani medicines. Her tryst begins after Baby Bedi , a medical representative in a pharmaceutical company and the sole breadwinner of her family, inherits her uncle’s sex clinic after his sudden demise.Just like the beneficiaries of Maalamaal and The Bachelor before her, Baby must fulfil a strange condition before she can avail this unexpected booty. Can she find a cure for the widespread social stigma against important issues like sex education and sexual health?
While Sonakshi does a much deglamorised performance as Baby Bedi and lends charm to her role, Priyansh Jore as her romantic interest fails to add spark to his role and their chemistry does not match at all. There is absolutely no novelty visible in Varun Sharma’s character as he replicates his early roles like Choocha in this one while Annu Kapoor does not have any scope. Rajesh Sharma has also been wasted in an inane role. Badshah appears in a half baked role where he has a change of heart and comes to Bedi’s rescue after saying to no her request to endorse for her sex clinic
The biggest problem with this film is that debutante Shilpi Dasgupta in her bid to make a film which is palatable with humor ends up weaving a story which looks too preachy and less humorous. On the flipside, though Shilpi has set out to tackle a bold subject, the snail’s pace kills everything and the flaws in the film appear all the more glaring, as you simply flip through multiple sub-plots which offer very little by way of contributing to the proceedings on.
With more minus points weighing against the film, its plus points are less and unfortunately Sonakshi Sinha is not able to carry the entire film on her slender shoulders though she has certainly tried her level best and hence the film will fail to sail through at the box office.
