Different and Path breaking!

Jyothi Venkatesh

The film revolves around Purvi (Rinku Rajguru), a happy go lucky young girl who wants to make a career as a make-up artiste, whose family is looking for a suitable groom for her. However, Purvi is in no mind to marry and wants to pursue a career as a makeup artiste in the film industry, something her elder brother (Tejpal Wagh) is completely against. To avoid getting married, Purvi uses her makeup skills and scares all the boys who come to see her in various disguises.

A chance encounter with Neel (Chinmay Udgirkar), a doctor who has returned to India from the US, turns Purvi’s life around, as it does Neel’s, when Neel takes a liking towards Purvi. However, on the day the two are to get married, Purvi elopes with her actor friend Ajay and gets married to him, though Neel takes it sportingly in his stride. There is a huge twist in the story just as it approaches the interval. Then the film completely changes track in the latter half. Also, the shift in the story happens so abruptly, without any warning, that it catches you off guard.

As far as performances go, Chinmay Udgirkar steals the show with his involved performance displaying cvarious shades as the film progresses while Rinku Rajuru proves that she was not a flash in the pan with her maiden film Sairaat and in what can be called a role reversal, the actress who was seen as a village girl in Sairaat is seen gulping bottle after bottle of beer. Rajan Tamhane scores with his effortless role as the hen pecked husband who has a progressive outlook towards life, while Sumukhi Pendse is good as Neel’s dominating mother.

The best thing about the path-breaking film written by Sujoy Roy who has jointly written the screenplay with Ganesh Pandit ,which does not follow the traditional way of conventional storytelling and attempts to experiment , is that it is not a typical romantic coming of age film of a boy and a girl but a plot which highlights pure selfless friendship, though the viewer may not find it palatable
