Network is a thriller set against the backdrop of the media industry that speaks about the perils of privacy encroachment now-a-days. You are under surveillance. Abhijit Ganguly (played by Saswata Chatterjee) is a whiz kid director who has long lost his fame. After his daughter's death he has turned into a walking shadow recognized by no one. When he gets to know that he is struck with cancer which will allow him to live only for two more years, he decides to put in all his own resources to make a new film and stage a comeback to regain his lost fame.

Abhijit Fanguly teams up with a group of talented actors and production management team including Raj and Shreya, who become very trusted to him. However, he gets betrayed by them and is left ruined. He retaliates and takes his own sweet revenge against them by creating a reality TV show named "Their Life", a unique show which deals with celebrity lifestyle. Through this show, he begins taking revenge on the persons who betrayed him one by one.

For a debutant, Saptaswa Basu needs kudos for his brilliant way of having conceived the innovative plot and directed the film, which has several layers and keeps you guessing about what the next move will be. As far as actors go, while Saswata Chatterjee is as usual excellent, Sabyasachi Chakraborty gives a sterling performance while Indrajit Majumdar as Raj and Rini Ghosh as Shreya score with their effortless performances.

At a time when most of the films churned out whether in Hindi or Bengali only cater to the front benchers it is creditable on the part of the makers of this film to try to make a film which is off beat and yet realistic and entertaining to the core. Editing could have been slicker as there are portions in the film which look repetitive. The message that the film sets out to drive home is that celebrities are becoming very greedy and for the sake of money offered they are ready to bare their souls and get into murky situations and the media also thrives on sensationalism most of the time.

On the whole, Network is a film worth watching not just by Bengalis but all other cinegoers too
