Movie Review: Pagalpanti

Nothing but a worst nightmare!

The premise of the pot boiler lacks any punch and is as bland as it can be. It is about an unlucky youngster Raj Kishore (John Abraham) and his friends Junky (Arshad Warsi) and Chandu (Pulkit Samrat) who are actually hired by gangsters Raja (Saurabh Shukla) and Wifi Bhai (Anil Kapoor) in a bid to recover their damages. It is nothing but the recipe for disaster that brings in more destruction.

In his earlier films, Anees Bazmi has pulled off different tricks and entertained the viewers but this time around, he seems to be sleep walking as a director. Right from the very first scene, the film is armed with loud action and dialogues trying to be funny, but far from that.  Anil Kapoor once again plays the flashy gangster with his loud dialogues, while Arshad Warsi is the funny guy with witty one-liners.

John Abraham exudes charm though cast in the role of a goofy character while Pulkit Samrat has nothing tangible to do this time. The worst aspect of the film is that the three heroines , whether it is Ileana D’Cruz, Kriti Kharbanda or Pooja Hegde are just  reduced to looking pretty well decorated and mouthing silly lines like “Papa kehte hain kiss karne se main pregnant ho jaungi.”

It is indeed a pity that the film does not work at all.  Anees Bazmee loses his usual mastery as well grip in manoeuvring the film in the right track and throws in everything into the mix to concoct an exciting formula ridden plot, from exciting car chases to high-octane destruction scenes, all shot beautifully in the picturesque UK. But nothing sticks, thanks to a weak script. There are far too many songs placed randomly that only add to the runtime. Towards the climax it even meanders into a patriotic and jingoistic subplot that seems more forced.

To sum up, it is a film which is guaranteed to give you a severe headache and fail in every way to entertain you. All that I can say is that it is nothing but a nightmare which will scare you to death or for that matter lull you to sleep unable to endure the torture that Anees wants to inflict upon you as a viewer. The film does live up to the ttle in a way and makes you  whether you are in a theater or lunatic asylum
