Jyothi Venkatesh There is hardly any tangible chemistry between Mamta (Anushka Sharma) and Mauji (Varun Dhawan) who have been married for quite some time as most of the time, Mamta is either fetching water from outside the house or is making tea for her father-in-law, played by Raghuvir Yadav. On the other hand, Mauji is busy playing the lapdog to his employers, the Bansals, who own a shop in the heart of a big city. Encouraged by his wife Mamta , Mauji decides to ditch his demanding bosses for his own tailoring business. But the million dollar question is whether amidst unscrupulous relatives and lack of support, his dreams of turning into an entrepreneur become a reality? While Varun Dhawan delivers an honest performance, not even once going overboard, Anushka Sharma’s restrained performance is effortless. She lives the character, clad in a simple sari, sporting sindoor and minimal make up. Raghubir Yadav is exemplary as the nagging father who ultimately supports his ward. To his credit, Director Sharat Katariya does take a few cinematic liberties, but there are some heart rending real moments to move you. In a winning first half, he successfully establishes his main characters and their problems, but is handicapped by a story which is very predictable. Anu Malik has composed some soothingly melodious music for the film, which is no patch to the director’s directorial debut film Dum Lagake Aisha To sum up, Sui Dhaga is a heartwarmingly predictable and interesting film which touches you and makes you go numb with tears at times, often lapsing into melodrama and making you cringe for its not so subtle in house advertising of products like Raymond. I’d advise you to watch it at least once. For more Bollywood updates, follow Bollyy!
