Awe Inspiring On A Grand and Gigantic Scale!

The film is based on the life of Narasimha Reddy, who revolted against the atrocities of the East India Company in 1847, 10 years before the Indian Rebellion of 1857.The film revolves around Narasimha Reddy (Chiranjeevi) who rules Uyyalawada. Following his guru Gosayi Venkanna's (Amitabh Bachchan) advice, he becomes a fierce warrior and leader. The just ruler is committed to doing the best for his subjects. Though he falls in love with the beautiful dancer, Laxmi (Tamannaah), he realizes that earlier in childhood, he was actually married off to Siddhamma (Nayanthara). Angered by the atrocities that his people are subjected to by the East India Company, Narasimha joins hands with other rulers, like Avuku Raju (Sudeep) and Raja Pandi (Vijay Sethupathi) and starts a rebellion against the tyrannical British.

Unfortunately, the film which has been released in five languages including, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi, falters off and on thanks to its unwieldy length of almost three hours but it is a sheer delight to watch Chiranjeevi tackle on the author backed role that eh essays with aplomb and finesse, even at the age of 64. The precision with which the gigantic war sequences have been shot makes you awe stricken. Both Tamanna and Nayanthara have their own moments in the film though they are very few and far between while Ravi Kishen is able to show his flair for as a villainous ruler. Sudeep’s chemistry with Chiranjeevi makes you wish there were more scenes of them together but poor Mukesh Rishi has been wasted in a half baked role, which does not at all call for his histrionics.

From the first frame, till the last, the film stands out with its attention to details in every frame though one wishes that the film had been slickly edited and made crisper. To the credit of director Surender Reddy, he has been able to weave emotions in the tale and extract tears from the audiences without going overboard or being melodramatic to the core. Though there are scenes which automatically remind you of the recently released Kesari and the storytelling has its flaws, what needs to be lauded is that the makers have been successfully able to pull out this tale from the pages of history by mounting it on such a massive canvas for the audiences to see.

On the whole, it is a must see film for us to know how Sye Raa Narsimha Reddy has been edited out of the history of India and in spite of War clashing with it, will be able to get maximum number of footfalls all over India but more so in Hyderabad and Telengana where Sye Raa Narsimha Reddy is revered like Veera Pandiya Katta Bomman is revered in Tamil Nadu. A big thank you to Devang Sampat of Cinepolis for having let me see the film in his Andheri property after I missed watching the film at the press show a day before
