A watered down version of Pati Patni Aur Woh!

After Prem Mhanje Prem Mhanje Prem Asta (2013) and Rama Madhav (2014), this romcom which has been loosely inspired to a large extent from the Hindi film Pati Patni Aur Woh is Mrinal Kulkarni’s third directorial venture. The film stars Pushkar Jog, Sonalee Kulkarni and Prarthana Behere . The highlight of the film is that it is certain that this is one of the few Marathi films to have been shot abroad in London, especially Europe.

Though the film begins on a progressive note with the entry of Saee (Prarthana Behere) who is a interested in medieval gothic structures, in the life of Anay (Pushkar Jog) the modernism displayed earlier is overrun by the tried and tested saga of one man caught between two women and is constantly confused whether he would be happier with Sai  or Priyanka(Sonalee Kulkarni) who was his child hood crush in school, when he bumps into her that too when he is honeymooning with Sai in London . Since it is a rule that that the heroines should maintain their virginity in order to be liked by the audiences, the Anay-Saee marriage remains unconsummated while Anay is flirting around with Priyanka.

The plot goes haywire and tends to remind you of scores of illogical triangles of Govinda in the 80’s and the initial novelty of the hero wanting to replicate his romance also like the reel romances that he has seen in his life starts to wear thin as there are a lot of holes that can be picked ion the plot. Pushkar is fairly good in his part as the philandering husband while Prarthana Behre suits her part as the obedient wife Saee who strays a little when she bumps to Siddharth Chandekar, a divorcee with a small daughter in London. It is however Sonalee Kulkarni who steals the show as the bohemian Priyanka who is on a bout of drinking wine. The comedy seems far too forced and the situations too remain unbelievable. Though to the credit of actress -director Mrinal Kulkarni, she has made an attempt to  churn out a different kind of film, a director, she is handicapped and hence fails to rise above a mundane and contrived screenplay written by her son Vrajas Kulkarni.
