Lacks Premise as well as Novelty
Jyothi Venkatesh
The film sets out to follow the story of a 25 years old NRI Mithilesh Kumar alias Micky (Gavie Chhal), who is born and brought up in London and shares the same stereotype views of India, which is known for its vast population, pollution, snake charmers and poverty. However, the protagonist soon finds new development in media or probably an 'other side of same coin' of India, which is also known for successful mars mission in first attempt, a nation which proudly holds title 'God of Cricket' for Sachin Tendulkar, who is also an Indian and a nation which is known for its holy generosity with icons like Mother Teresa.
Micky for no rhyme or reason, one day decides to leave his fiancée behind in London and packs his bags and shifts to India in order to prove to his obnoxious family friend back home that there is more to this ‘third world’ country. Not only the film’s title but also the various events leading up to the climax are not only just pretty darn preachy, but also extremely predictable from the very first frame.
The film is based on its writer's real life journey to several different countries and his observations on the thoughts and views of other people about India. As far as the performances go, Gaavie Chhal is reasonably good and delivers proper justice to his part while Deana Uppal leaves a lot to be desired as the rich British girl. One wonders what on earth prompted talented actors like Mohan Agashe and Mohan Joshi to be part of the cast of this film. Antara Banerjee has hardly any scope to prove her talent whereas Surendra Pal just about passes the muster. To sum up, the tacky film lacks not only novelty but also a proper new premise.
