Mrunal Thakur’s casting in Love Sonia was a special one

We all know that casting is one of the most important parts for any film and it takes a lot of hard work to find the right face especially when you are launching a new face who has to act with other powerful actors.

It is a lesser known fact that over 2500 girls auditioned for the role of Sonia and Mrunal was the one who won the battle among them.

The casting for Sonia was a very crucial for the makers as the entire story revolves around her. They wanted someone who is young, innocent but has a strong opinion at the same time. They knew what they wanted and the search was ended with Mrunal.

Tabrez Noorani said, “We went through 2,500 girls and an extensive casting process to find her. We looked everywhere across different cities in India, we looked for Indian girls in LA, parts of Canada and the UK. So, we really went through a several auditions before we found Mrunal. First time when we actually saw her, I think it was a mixture of her vulnerability and innocence. At the same time you could that tells there is a strong girl which we needed and the minute she auditioned we knew that she is Sonia.”

A visibly excited Mrunal shared, “As an actor you want to fit in every role and be able to portray it with the best of your abilities. But little did I ever imagine that I would get a role for my first very film that is the heart and soul of the film. I hope all the hard work put in the film by Tabrez and all of us actors in the film is liked by the audiences.”

Love Sonia is the shocking story of a young Indian village girl played by Mrunal whose life is tumultuously and irrevocably changed when she gets entrapped in the global sex trade while trying to save the one person she is closest to, her sister.

The film has a strong ensemble cast starring Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Rajkummar Rao, Sai Tamhankar, Adil Hussain, Anupam Kher, Demi Moore, Mark Duplass with Freida Pinto and introducing Mrunal Thakur and Riya Sisodiya.

Tamasha Talkies and Samraaj Talkies in association with India Take One Productions, Cinemantra Entertainment and Media & Dynasty Consulting Group present Love Sonia. The film is Tabrez Noorani's directorial debut, produced by the Academy Award nominated producer of Life of Pi, David Womark and Tabrez Noorani. Co-produced by Amar Butala and Executive Producers include Shalini Thackeray, Deepak Nayar and Pravesh Sahni. The Dynasty Consulting Group was instrumental in setting up the movie. Zee Studios will release the film in India. Love Sonia releases on 14th September 2018.
