Mumbai’s Afroz Shah Named One Of Top 10 CNN Heroes Of 2019 Overall Winner Announced On CNN On December 9

Mumbai-based lawyer Afroz Shah has been selected as one of the top 10 CNN Heroes for 2019, recognized for his outstanding commitment to saving the world’s oceans from plastic.What started as a personal journey to clean one beach in 2015 has turned into the world’s largest volunteer beach clean-up. The Afroz Shah Foundation is on a mission to protect the ocean by clearing trash from beaches and waterways and through education.Shah is just one of 10 people from around the world honoured for their dedication to changing the world. The Peabody and Emmy Award-winning campaign celebrates individuals who are making extraordinary contributions to help improve the lives of others.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper will be joined by Kelly Ripa as co-host of the 13th Annual CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. The awards show, which celebrates all Top 10 honorees, will air Monday, December 9 live from the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.Each Top 10 CNN Hero will be awarded $10,000 and the ‘CNN Hero of the Year’ will receive an additional $100,000. The honorees will also receive free capacity-building training from the Annenberg Foundation, a leading supporter of nonprofits worldwide. They will participate in a customized version of the Annenberg Alchemy program in Los Angeles, CA, which offers leadership development to help strengthen organizations for long-term success.

CNN has also partnered with GoFundMe Charity™ to enable people to donate to this year’s honorees and learn more about their stories.
