Music-savvy super-star Amitabh Bachchan turns ‘sangeetkaar’ with R.Balki’s ‘Chup’

When I heard the heart-warming news that the upcoming R.Balki’s film 'Chup' would mark the debut of multi-faceted Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as a ‘music-composer’, it was not exactly a huge surprise for me - Chaitanya Padukone

In the past, legendary ‘late’ Bollywood composers like Kalyanji-bhai, R D Burman (Pancham-Da) , Aadesh Srivastava and even Shivkumar Sharma-ji had highly appreciated the melody and rhythm-sense of music-savvy Sr Bachchan-saab while speaking to me during friendly media-interactions.

In fact when I messaged Amitabh-jee yesterday, regarding his amazing musical talent and knowledge, he promptly acknowledged it with his dignified reaction “Aabhaar” and an ‘emoji of a blooming red rose and a green leaf’.

Gifted with a bass baritone voice and potential musical talent, the versatile Big B (a staunch Lord Ganesha-bhakt) has so many evergreen filmy chartbusters sung by him as ‘playback’ like ‘Range Barse’ ( Silsila), ‘Mere Angne Mein (Laawaris), Tu Maike Mat Jaiyo (Pukar) and Holi Khele Rahuveera ( Baghban).

Innovative maverick movie writer-director R Balki ( Balakrishnan) who disclosed the details as the film is set to release on September 23. The film is a romantic psychopath thriller, a brain-wave Balki had after 'Cheeni Kum' and decided to write it much later.

The poster revealing the release date was also released on Thursday.
Speaking about the same, writer-director Balki said "'Chup' is special for multiple reasons. For me the biggest reason is it marks the official debut of Amitabh Bachchan as a music composer."

Big B and Balki have a long standing bonding-association and the veteran superstar has worked with him in almost all of his films.

Dynamic director Balki ( a die-hard fan of iconic retro actor-director Guru Dutt) then revealed how the music composing debut for Big B unfolded, "Amit-ji saw 'Chup' and played an instinctive original melody on his piano as he relived the film. It was his way of expressing his feelings for the film, paying a tribute.

This composition, his gift to the film, will be the end title track of 'Chup'. I don't think there can be an artiste whose sensitivity can beat Bachchan's and 'Chup' has his touch!"

The killer-thriller film Chup—Revenge of The Artist’ stars Sunny Deol, Dulquer Salmaan, Shreya Dhanwanthary and Pooja Bhatt. The original story is by R Balki, with the screenplay and dialogues co-written by R Balki, critic-turned-writer Raja Sen and Rishi Virmani.

Coincidentally, ‘Chup’ releases on Sept 23, just 17 days before Bachchan-saab’s 80th birthday on October 11, this year. The film has been produced by the late iconic mega-stock investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, Anil Naidu, Dr. Jayantilal Gada (PEN Studios) and director Gauri Shinde.
