"I was named Sunidhi by my parents as she was their favourite singer and they wanted me to have her name. But they never thought that I would be joining the same industry

The reason Sunidhi Chauhan changed the spelling of her name to Sunidee Chauhan last year was to avoid all kinds of confusion with her namesake, eminent singer Sunidhi Chauhan.

Since then, all those calls that were misdirected to her have gone down, thankfully. The Lovepantii actor reveals that her parents named her after the singer without realising that their daughter would join showbiz too.

“I changed my name last year after my show Vighnaharta Ganesha on SonyTV ended and I was getting calls for new shows.

My parents believe in astrology so they got it done by a good pandit who has knowledge of all these things.

I was named Sunidhi by my parents as she was their favourite singer and they wanted me to have her name. But they never thought that I would be joining the same industry,” she smiles.

Throwing light on the kind of confusion having the same name can lead to, the actor shares, “She is such a big celebrity and has been working in this industry for so many years and has a huge fan following.

And, I have just started my career. So, obviously whenever people hear Sunidhi Chauhan, they will think of her.

A lot of time, I have got calls from people who wanted to connect with her regarding work. But unfortunately, they were given my number by mistake.”

Meanwhile, Sunidee is enjoying her first stint at playing the lead character Ranjana in Lovepantii. She has been trying for it long enough.

“I auditioned a lot, especially for lead roles, but never cracked any. It wasn't like I didn't have work, I was doing shows but was not satisfied with the quality, in short I was not getting the kind of work I wanted to do.

So, when Lovepantii worked out, I was on cloud nine,” adds the actor. She has finished shooting for the show that will stream on MX player and Azaad TV.
