NASEERUDDIN SHAH'S MICHAEL TO RELEASE EXCLUSIVELY ON NETFLIX

Yay for online streaming!

After a five-year-long struggle, Naseeruddin Shah’s psychological thriller Michael is finally being released worldwide on Netflix. The date is yet to be announced.

The film, directed by Ribhu Dasgupta and produced by Anurag Kashyap, is the story of a dedicated cop who accidentally kills a 12-year-old boy, is fired, harassed and forced to work odd jobs as he tries to keep his life together. The film features Mahi Gill, Iravati Harshe and Sabyasachi Chakraborty, besides Shah, in leading roles.

Michael premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2011 and the Shanghai Film Festival in 2012 and even received appreciation from director Marco Mueller at the Venice Film Festival. However, back in India, the film did not get any takers for five years. Finally, Viacom, the production studio, has decided to release it on the online video streaming platform. Speaking about the release, director Ribhu Dasgupta, in a statement to the media, said, "Michael was my directorial debut, so it's special. Despite doing the festival rounds and receiving rave reviews, it did not get a theatrical release. I am glad that the production studio (Viacom) has put it out on Netflix. Finally, people can see it."
