Netflix Inc., the world's leading internet entertainment service, hosted the premiere for its upcoming dystopian series, Leila, on 7 June, 2019, in Mumbai. Huma Qureshi, who essays the role of Shalini in the show, along with Creative Executive Producer and Director Deepa Mehta, co-director Shanker Raman, co-stars Arif Zakaria, Sanjay Suri, and Akash Khurana were amongst those who graced the red carpet.
Nandita Das opened the evening by inviting the celebrated and critically acclaimed filmmaker, and her long-time associate, Deepa Mehta on stage to introduce the series. Nandita Das has worked with Mehta on both Fire and Earth -1947, A Love Story.
Highly anticipated and eagerly awaited, the premiere of Leila saw a packed audience and impressive support from the Indian entertainment industry, including Shabana Azmi, Imran Khan, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Jim Sarbh, Kubra Sait, Russika Duggal, Dibaker Banerjee, Anil Dharkar, Tanuja Chandra, Uma Da Cunha, Sapna Bhavnani, Athiya Shetty, Ramesh Taurani, Neeraj Gheywan, Abhishek Chaubey, Divya Dutta, Shruti Seth, Jyoti Kapur Das, Mahesh Mathai, Alankrita Srivastav and Nandita Das, walk the red carpet, engaged with the cast and creative minds behind the series, and experienced a part of Leila’s dystopian world during the course of the evening.
