Nishikant Kamat, who was suffering from chronic liver disease and secondary infections and was admitted to AIG hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderabad on July 31, was fighting for his life in the hospital on a ventilator. Today evening, the ever smiling Nishikant breathed his last after battling for his life, atr the young age of just 50 .
Nishikant had made his directorial debut with Marathi film, 'Dombivali Fast', in 2005. The film became one of the biggest hits of the year in Marathi cinema and also won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi in 2006.Nishikant Kamat was catapulted to nationwide fame and spotlight when he directed the Hindi remake of Malayalam hit Drishyam, starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu in 2015. Nishikant Kamat was also a very popular director of Marathi films. He had called the shots for hits like Riteish Deshmukh starrer ‘Lai Bhaari’ as well as Swwapnil Joshi’s ‘Fugay’ and 'Dombivali Fast'. Nishikant was slated to direct a film written by Milap Jhaveri and starring Abhishek Bachchan called Sanak.
Nishikant Kamat was diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease and other secondary infections and was in the Intensive Care Unit for continuous monitoring under supervision of a multi-disciplinary team of senior consultants comprising gastroenterologists, hepatologists, critical care and others.
