‘Once I Cross 50 Years Of Age, I Would Love To Act In ‘Dil Chahta Hai-2’  ”: Akshaye Khanna -Who Plays A  Shrewd Lawyer In ‘Section 375’

Like his macho legendary actor dad Vinod Khanna who was known for versatile roles right from Achanak to Amar Akbar Anthony and from Chandni to Imtihan, suave star-son Akshaye Khanna is following in his famous father’s foot-steps. As is evident that after playing investigative police officers( in Ittefaq and Mom ), a noted political commentator ( Accidental Prime Minister) he is now cast as a smart,shrewd lawyer in volatile movie ‘Section 375’ , co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak . Where he is fiercely  defending his client ( noted actor Rahul Bhat) accused of alleged rape.   Reacts Akshaye, “ Long ago,  I have played a lawyer in thriller Deewangee, but out here in Section 375 ( deals with rape offence) directed by brilliant Ajay Bahl, it is a proper volatile court-room drama where I play this grey-shades defence lawyer. It exposes the harsh reality, one goes thru.  The realistic yet emotional and topical movie will not only engage the audience but it will also enlighten and educate them on the legalities and such rape-cases are looked upon by different strata and sections of society. It gives a holistic view of a shocking case,” insists the ‘Taal’ actor ,  who feels a social conversation will be triggered of on how ‘ consent and explicit permission’ is required even in consensual sex.  The movie has the spunky Richa Chadha as the prosecuting lawyer and Meera Chopra as the ‘survivor’. Quizzed on why he accepted this lawyer’s role with a negative tinge, Akshay justifies. “ The script of’Section 375’ is so well-written and well-researched with multiple layers and nuances that I was inspired to grab this intriguing role. So the credit goes to writer-director Ajay Bahl, “ shrugs Akshaye who in jestful mood declares that he always told director Farhan Akhtar that he is “willing to act in ‘Dil Chahta Hai-2’, but only once I cross 50 years of age’.
