Let us tell you that the teaser of 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' begins with a group of Indian passengers ready to fly from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. Vijay Verma, who plays pilot Sharan Dev here, asks the passengers to sit comfortably before five masked terrorists take them at gunpoint, attack the air hostess, and hijack the plane, leaving everyone terrified.

At the same time, the teaser shows that this is no ordinary kidnapping, but the fate of the whole country is at stake. Indian government officials in various positions, played by Pankaj Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Manoj Pahwa, and Naseeruddin Shah, are ready for action in New Delhi. The passengers are in great danger as they are being taken to Kandahar in Afghanistan, which was under the control of the Taliban at that time.

Apart from Vijay Verma, the 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' series also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swami, and Patralekha. The story of the series revolves around the events that took place inside and outside the plane. At the same time, Anubhav Sinha, famous for powerful films like Mulk, Thappad, Article 17, and Bhed, is all set to make his streaming debut. It is co-produced by his banner Benaras Media Works. 'IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack' series will premiere on Netflix on August 29, 2024.

The series is based on a real-life incident

In 1999, an Indian airliner IC 814 was hijacked by a group of five masked Pakistani terrorists, members of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), while flying from Nepal to New Delhi. They ordered the plane to be flown to several locations, and eventually to Kandahar, which was under the control of the Taliban at the time. Without giving away potential spoilers, the outcome of that hijacking completely changed the direction of terrorism in India.
