After facing so many controversies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat is definitely a magnum opus. An epic tale of Rani Padmavati, a noble king (Raja Rawal Ratan Singh) and an evil Sultan (Alauddin Khilji). All the characters have been portrayed in the movie very brilliantly by Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. Not just the lead cast but also the supporting roles by Aditi Rao Hydari and Jim Sarbh have been efficiently played. The acting, directing, editing, camera-work, music and everything was on point and perfect. And that's the reason why it is considered to be as the highest grossing Hindi film ever till date wherever it got released in India.
With a production budget of ₹2.15 billion, Padmaavat is the most expensive Hindi film and one of the most expensive Indian Films ever made. Despite being banned in some states of India, it grossed over ₹5.64 billion at the box office, becoming a commercial success and one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time. Padmaavat has reached approx Rs 290 crore, which is the equivalent of Rs 385 crore had it released in every state, which would equal it to Dangal’s lifetime total business and Padmaavat is still adding more to its collections in the coming few weeks.
Talking about other films, Padman started well and has put up a reasonable total of approx Rs 80 crore. Aiyaary did not manage to set the cash registers ringing and hardly managed to do Rs 18 crore lifetime collections. Welcome to New York is another disaster, which barely did Rs 3 crores Total. Sonu Ki Titu Ki Sweety is a super hit film which opened with a bang and did Rs 45 crores in its first week and is on its way to matching or beating Fukrey Returns of Rs 80 crores lifetime total. Pari, which released this weekend looked exciting in the trailers and promotions but took a slow start and the weekend collections will range between Rs 13.5-14 crores; we have to wait to see how it manages over the next few weeks.
So far in first two month, we have had only 2 hits. Hate story 4, Raid, Hichki and Baaghi 2 are the main releases in the coming weeks, let’s see how they perform and how many hits can we get out of them.
