As we reported earlier that six states including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Uttrakhand banned Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat. After that the producers of the film had moved to the apex court, opposing the ban imposed on its screening by different state governments.
Now according to the latest reports, a bench of the SC headed by chief justice Dipak Misra suspends the ban imposed by 4 states and also said that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was the only statutory body that could take a ban decision.
Earlier, governments of Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand have declared that they will not allow screening of the Padmaavat in their states.
After the Supreme Court has cleared Sanjay Leela Bhanshali’s controversial film, now Padmaavat is all set for the worldwide release on January 25 in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil languages and will be the first Indian film to get a global IMAX 3D release.
