Parull Chaudhry says Sakinaka case does raise questions on women safety in Mumbai and hence it’s scary to be on the road at night now

The brutal rape of the 30-year-old woman in Khairani Road, Sakinaka, north-west Mumbai, sparked outrage across India - Jyothi Venkatesh

It raised questions on women safety and how much we have learnt or steps were taken after the Nirbhaya case in Delhi that too had shocked the nation.

Parull Chaudhry too expresses concern and says it’s high time that women safety is prioritised.

“The Sakinaka case has definitely shaken each one of us. Women aren’t safe anywhere anymore, I was thinking about us all, especially people like us, both on and off-screen.

We sometimes travel a long way to reach the location and as it’s a factor that we have such long working hours, so we often travel back home quite late in the night.

With incidents like happening around you that too in Mumbai, it’s scary to be on the road at night now,” says the Bhagya Lakshmi actor.

Parull always felt that “Mumbai is much safer than Delhi”, but now it seems that “things are turning out otherwise”.

She adds, “We need stringent laws to curb this issue. I wish we had punishments like those in the Middle East, like public prosecution immediately.

Maybe that would help, because fear could prevent criminals from committing such heinous crimes. As a woman, I feel helpless and sad.

This shouldn’t happen with any human being, because this is cruelty and animal-like behaviour.”
