"Chor" & "Pocket Maar" & Music Video "Sundori Kamala" is the result of Shomu Mitra's long and interesting journey of exploring various departments in the industry while being behind as well as in front of the camera.
An actor turned director, producer & entrepreneur, Shomu Mitra who has been a part of the entertainment industry for more than two decades gears up for the screening of her three new projects- 2 Bengali shorts films- Chor, Pocket Maar & Music Video- Sundori Kamala.
While Chor has screened at multiple festivals has won many awards, It is on the verge of release through a prominent channel. The film was premiered at Kolkata International Film Festival in 2018. It was also premiered in two of renowned UK film festivals. Infact Chor will also feature Shomu Mitra as an actor.
Her second project Pocket Maar has also won many awards. It was screened at the Jaipur Film Festival .Both the movies carry a very important message which is conveyed beautifully. She has also directed and produced three hit music videos.
When asked about the switch from an actor to a director & producer, Shomu calls herself a storyteller & through acting & writing she successful salivates her craving to tell a story from her perspective "Being in this industry for more than 20 years and maintaining a position with continuous hard work and dedication is not an easy job, there are lots of expectations, speculations, dirty politics, depression, set back, failure, humiliation that you have to ignore and move forward like a confident lady, well that's what I am trying to do. Alone I am trying hard so that I can leave my mark too. My short movies Chor & Pocketmaar, and my music video Sundori Kamala are doing really well and have been nominated and awarded at many places all over the world. My heart swells with pride & being a single lady from a different city, I have single handedly with a very supportive and powerful team have given my dreams a shape. I want to share my happiness with the people who have been a part of my journey all these years, some from a long time, few in between and the new ones as well, I need your love and blessings"
As a young filmmaker who is full of ideas, Shomu aims to venture into unexplored realms of film making by experimenting with new themes and subjects. She envisions delving in to revolutionary and untrammeled areas and thus be able to discover his inner self using the limitless possibilities and scope of cinema.
Apart from her passion for storytelling, Shomu Mitra runs an NGO in Mumbai by the name "Creative Connection". The NGO takes care of academic and daily needs of orphan kids and also arranges two very big events in Mumbai Vasant Panchami i.e. Saraswati Puja & Baisaki Utsav i.e. Paila Baisakh...where in midst of celebrity gathering and performances they try to collect funds for helping the underprivileged. The NGO also brings Dharavi kids & give them the stage to perform alongside celebrities in order to help them.
Shomu who belongs to a renowned film music family background , has been a part of many Hindi and Bengali daily soaps, she has also been an associate with Ravi Chopra & acted in a hit show Kanoon / B R Chopra House "We are trying to help and support others through my NGO and personally as well, after we are gone, everyone can remember us through our good deeds and creations If not anything else"
