Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan finalised for Gustakhiyaan

After starring together in 7 Khoon Maaf in 2011 and Gunday in 2014, Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan are coming together again in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gustakhiyaan, a film that will be based on the life of the poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and his muse, the Bohemian author, Amrita Pritam.
Rumours regarding the film’s casting were rife. A number of big names, including Fawad Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan were being speculated to have made the cut for Sahir’s role. Sources have now confirmed that it is indeed Irrfan who has been chosen.
In an exclusive interview to Firstpost in 2014, Irrfan had mentioned that he was looking forward to playing Ludhianvi on screen. “I don’t have to prepare to play Sahir. I’ve grown up with his poetry. His thoughts are so much a part of our consciousness that we don’t need to explore them any further to know him. His lines have left a deep impact on all of us who grew up in post-Independent India,” he had said.
A report by The Quint states that Bhansali was initially planning to cast his frequent collaborator Deepika Padukone for Amrita Pritam’s role, but he finally went with Chopra. However, as there is no official confirmation from either Bhansali or Chopra, we are keeping our fingers crossed for this one.
